My name is Mike "The Spike" Smith (born Michele Rocco Smeets) and I am an actor, programmer, producer, videogame designer, writer and weapons specialist. I wrote my first program when I was 8 on a Commodore 64, 32 years ago. It was a chatbot... When I was 15 I was selected for a programming internship at L & H, pioneers in the field of speech recognition and text to speech. As a teen, my dream was creating an AI user agent operating system capable of understanding human speech, talk, and train itself in a 3D engine simulation. That was the early 2000s. In essence, what exists now in the form of ChatGPT, I "invented". Later I turned to acting, and my carreer focused on that. Eventually I started noticing what was in development right now by companies and started to grow increasingly worried. The dangers of AI go way beyond social problems caused by job loss, disinformation, fake media and cyber attacks. An AGI that can rewrite itself can lead to an uncontrollable intelligence explosion. So I became a member of PauseAI. I have left my old life and lifestyle behind, to dedicate my talents as a movie maker and actor to this cause. I am creating a mainstream TV/Netflix series that exposes the dangers humanity faces from this emergent technology.
