@Nathan_Barnard
I’m an economist and policy researcher focused on improving the long run future via interventions that condition on very powerful AI systems arriving this century.

My current research interests are risks from concentration of power, the macroeconomics of AI, bargaining theory, and the intersection of AI and nuclear weapons. I’ve previously worked on the regulatory policy for powerful AI systems, and mandatory insurance approaches to reducing AI risks, and retain interests in those areas.
I’ve previously conducted AI governance research for Longview Philanthropy, Open Philanthropy, and contributed to the BlueDot AI governance curriculum. I’ve also worked as an RA for Prof Mirko Draca working on empirical health economics, and developing a novel bargaining theoretic model of nuclear conflict.
I studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Warwick, and I blog at https://thegoodblog.substack.com/. I maintain amateur interests in normative issues in Longtermism, particularly around the intersection of population ethics and aggregation, and the implications of issues in formal epistemology for Longtermist interventions.
