I'd prefer to choose causes myself, then rely on competent specialists to identify and evaluate opportunities. Pooling funds with like-minded donors sounds attractive, especially if it reduces overhead and increases impact. Cause-area funds would be appealing if transparent and aligned with my priorities. Ideally, donating to some Spanish approved charity status institution would stretch the money more.
I'd like effective giving to be more clearly separated from effective altruism's moral assumptions. Donors should be free to choose their own ends, while benefiting from rigorous, evidence-based evaluation of the most effective means. Intellectual honesty, transparency, and respect for donor autonomy matter enormously to me.
