Hi all!
I'm a 19-year-old undergrad student from Kentucky! I live in a tiny college town, and working to better myself, and the world around me. I'm an Eagle Scout, and current Biology student going into my sophomore year. I recently graduated from EMT school, and plan on getting my EMS Instructors certification soon, to train, and help better within my community.
Around a month ago, I started a new project, and have been exploring how to implement it- I am working to build a way to train people in my community in First Aid/CPR/AED, along with Stop The Bleed training. In my college community, we are in a extremely rural area, with commonly delayed EMS response times. My community would be greatly improved by being able to provide zero-cost First Aid/CPR/AED trainings, along with Stop The Bleed. From speaking with my fellow students, and community members-barely anyone has had formal First Aid training in any form, and most have stated that they would be interested- if the barrier to entry wasn't so high. Most classes in Kentucky for basic first aid that result in a certification starts at $130, and a 1-2 hour drive away. My goal is to bring these classes to my college community at zero-cost to participants, and in a way that after initial funding can operate extremely leanly/efficiently.
My project is fiscally sponsored by The Hack Foundation, and they manage a restricted fund for it. The project financials are also entirely transparent, and will remain entirely transparent throughout the whole project. They do NOT provide any direct financial funding to my project however.
I have planned, and budgeted for the startup/initial year of the project, and will be seeking funding here on Manifund! I am more than happy to answer any/all questions, especially as I understand this project is different than most here on Manifund.
