grantmaking.ai is running a $1M grant round for projects that reduce existential risks from AI, distributing $5k to $50k per successful application. Manifund is handling grant distribution for this round.
The round funds projects addressing existential risks and risks of permanent drastic curtailment of humanity’s potential — including career transitions and exploratory work justified by prior accomplishments. Individual applicants are welcome; no legal entity is required.
Applications are reviewed by:
Gavin Leech — co-founder of Arb Research, AI PhD. Looking for critiques, critiques of critiques, evals, sensemaking, and weird maybe-cool ideas.
Ryan Kidd — CEO and co-founder of MATS.
Marcus Abramovitch — trader, poker player, and forecaster who has donated $1.5M+ to high-impact causes.
The priority review deadline is July 13, 2026, with final decisions by July 28, 2026. Late applications are accepted while funding remains.
Grantees commit to posting quarterly public updates on their progress, and to notifying grantmaking.ai if they receive other funding during the round.
grantmaking.ai was initialized by Anton Makiievskyi, who is funding this round, with development by Matt Brooks and Melissa Samworth, advised by Austin Chen.
