CNSAtlas is a free educational resource that we're using to test how accurately AI can translate complex neuroanatomy and its clinical relationships into an interactive 3D learning platform.
Our goals for this project are to evaluate the anatomical accuracy of AI-generated content through independent expert review, as well as determine whether learners can understand and navigate these complex anatomical relationships. To achieve this, we need access to advanced video and image editing tools that AI models can use to develop the interactive 3D learning platform.
We currently have an early module focused on the trigeminal nerve, including its complex anatomy across multiple imaging planes and its important clinical correlations.
This platform will be considered successful through a combination of independent clinical expert review and learner feedback demonstrating a better understanding of complex anatomical relationships. We have a small group of learners testing the trigeminal nerve module who will provide feedback. We also want to evaluate how much correction and human oversight is actually needed to produce accurate 3D anatomical models.
The requested funding will primarily support my time developing and clinically reviewing the educational material, along with independent clinical review to ensure its accuracy. It will also help cover the computing resources and production tools needed to create high-quality videos.
Additional funding will support video editing, transcripts, captions, editorial assistance, and project management. We also want to continue maintaining the website as a free, publicly accessible educational resource.
I am the primary researcher, E. Brooke Schrickel, MD. I am an academic neuroradiologist and assistant professor of radiology at a major university. I completed my neuroradiology fellowship at Yale and am board-certified in diagnostic radiology with a Certificate of Added Qualification in neuroradiology.
Tab is the CEO of Resonant Labs, LLC, and oversees business operations and project management.
My previous work includes research involving AI-assisted radiology reporting, clinical evaluation of AI-generated content, and the development of educational resources for radiologists and trainees. This project would allow us to expand on that work and more formally evaluate whether this approach is useful.
If AI is not able to accurately render complex 3D anatomical structures and their relationships without significant human correction, that would be considered a failure. Even if the models are anatomically accurate, they may not improve a learner's understanding of how these structures relate to clinical findings.
We have not raised any external funding in the last 12 months. This has been a self-funded project, and we feel that now may be the right time to seek additional funding to expand the research and allow more people to benefit from the resource.
