Framed animals and working animals including but not limited to cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, poultry and donkeys are most vulnerable in these changing conditions. Further due to no available veterinary help within these communities, these animals suffer extremely due to parasites, ticks and fleas, unhygienic standards, unclean water, unnoticed injuries, heat stress, neglected hove care, malnutrition and even excessive labor.
CAHLI is an emerging Zimbabwean Youth and Community led non profit organization seeking to address these problems with the vulnerable communities. We believe these problems are interconnected help we strongly believe in a One Health Approach in identifying and solving emerging climate change problems in the society.
With the requested amount, we plan to conduct a 12 month pilot project focusing on Hatcliff and Domboshava. Our Project Goals in these areas are:
1. Veterinary Outreach and Preventative Care Programs
2. Establish an animal center within these communities at which attending Vets (including volunteers/attachment students under supervision) can assess, treat, teach, vaccinate each month as community outreach.
3. Create animal water sources for clean, accessible water sources for animals
4. Advocate and help create cage-and-cruelty free settlements for poultry.
5. Conduct monthly hove care and treatment training sessions.
6. Create dip sites for free, parasite control
7. Create Zero Animal Cruelty communities
8. Establish community library tools that can be borrowed and returned in an effort to reduce excessive work on cattle and donkeys.
9.Emphasize on hygienic standards and supply hygiene pack to reduce spreading of diseases between animals and between animals and humans.
10. Introduce One Health and Animal Welfare Clubs in both Primary and Secondary Schools as an effort to further educate on animal welfare, climate change, one health approach and also enlighten students on the broad opportunities of Ecology, Agriculture, Animal Studies and Veterinary.
We have a vision in which vulnerable communities are equipped with knowledge and resources that best protect both the people, animals and the environment against climate change and animal cruelty.
