My project regarded the leakage of personally identifiable information (PII) in LLMs while they are conducting various tasks, namely translation and also judging (during LLM-as-judge natural language tasks). I found significant leakage tendencies in several LLMs and also characterised a correlative relationship in some cases between PII leakage and task completion (i.e., whether the LLM was able to carry out the task as directed).
I created code infrastructure and completed experiments. I was accepted to the workshop entitled Beyond Private Training: The New Landscape of AI Privacy (InfPriv) in Sydney, Australia.

I am Troy Hanfei Tian, a sophomore undergraduate student at the University of California, Los Angeles, concentrating in Computer Science and Asian American Studies. In terms of past projects, at the Computation and Language for Society Lab at UCLA, I presented and plan to eventually submit for publication a project addressing evaluation methodology for VLM-generated image captions. I gained evaluation experience in demonstrating comparative bias in favour of sighted as opposed to blind populations within LLM-as-judge methods, and proved a nuanced three-axis decomposition of description quality. I also completed and presented a SPAR metaresearch project developing evaluation methodology for the capabilities spillover risk of various AI safety projects based on past data and case studies.
If I don't get this travel funding, I would have to ask my family to budget the money I make from my part-time jobs away from our bills and my tuition fees, towards this travel since the presentation in-person is mandatory. It would strain our finances.
