The Field Ledger has an undeniably idealistic mission: attempt to rid institutional systems of structural injustices through careful exploration of ai-human intersections with power and high stakes. While accepting the likely probability of failure to solve systemic oppression outright, the project continues to ask: what might become possible if we tried anyway? What if we could find structural gaps in ai-human systems, attempt honest fixes, and find out what happens next. Then repeat the experiment, and actually compare predictions, outcomes and outliers.
The Field Ledger aims to work alongside and with AI technologies that increasingly run through almost all industries. It examines what happens inside the AI-institutional system after it has been informed it made a mistake. A correction can be acknowledged, accepted, even repeated back accurately—and still change nothing. The Field Ledger tracks claims, decisions, and who has the authority to make impactful decisions. It continues to track as reality unfolds.
This particular project is to fund testing of the ledger protocol in independent hands. An external coder who did not develop Field Ledger will apply its written protocol to documented cases of institutional failure. The results will be published whether the method succeeds, fails, or proves inconclusive.
